Don't Just Visit - Interact!

Welcome to the 167th Leicestershire County Show!

Held at Melton Mowbray on the 3rd and 4th May 2009, this year promises to be amazing.

Under the guidance of the new Show Director, Liz Earle, the show is being taken in a new and interesting

direction with the launch of several feature areas, and new livestock classes. “We have so much going on

this year” said Liz  “For me, I think the Canine Corner and Gardeners’ World will be especially

exciting”.

The Canine Corner features two show rings. One holding fun Gun Dog Classes and racing for

Terriers and Lurchers. The other will be host to Gun dog, behavioural and obedience demonstrations,

Scrufts Qualifiers and “Have a go” agility. All of these classes allow the visitors to bring their family dog

and compete and interact with the demonstrations. The Grand Ring is also featuring Flayball

competitions.

Just around the corner from the Grand Ring, is the ITV show “Gardening Question Time”. A panel of top

household names will be to answer your questions on all aspects on gardens. There are many large prizes

to be won, should you be able to answer their questions in turn! Springing up around the marquee are

contemporary and traditional flower arranging competitions, show gardens, allotments societies, small

holding and self sufficiency advice and products and loads more!

After all that thirsty work, head over to the ever popular Framers’ Market. The County Show have a

“Producer only” policy in this area, meaning the person you purchased something off,  has raised or grown

it personally ! The food ranges from Hog Roasts, Rare Breed suauges, cakes to jams, pickle and

preserves. There is even a bar for the gentlemen.  In the non food section you can find soaps, candles,

gifts, smellies and even herb potions! But it doesn’t stop there. This year the Leicestershire County Show

welcomes  Jimmy’s Farm as a supporter of this area, so pop over, get a book signed and your photo

taken at the same time as tasting those lovely sausages.  Afterwards take a seat in the Farmers Kitchen

and see to how to turn all these ingredients into wonderful dishes.

So plenty for the adults, but what about the kids? Follow the adventure trail around the show to discover

how to milk a cow, walk a lizard or care for exotic creatures at the petting zoo, grind wheat  to make

bread, or perhaps they just fancy doing some crafts and painting in the Country Side marquee, there’s

something for all ages.

We must not forget to also mention the Pygmy Goats and Donkeys also make their debut appearance.

These will be shown alongside the Driving Classes and magestic Heavy Horses decked in their polished

leather and gleaming brasses.

As if this is not enough, the Leicestershire County Show is giving FREE tickets to children on all pre booked

tickets and has over £1000 in prize money to give away to visitors.

Fancy having a go at anything mentioned here? All entry forms and further information is online, so get

planning!

Don’t forget  “Don’t just visit – Interact!
