Horticultural Competitions

 

To be held in the Gardeners’ World Marquee

 

Entry fee: £3.00 (£2.50 for three or more entries)

  

Closing date: April 17th 2009

  

Entries can be made on day at the cost of £1 extra per class.  

Class 1:  Contemporary Flower arrangement, floor standing. Space allocated 1m2. Unlimited height.

Class 2: Traditional Flower arrangement, floor standing. Space allocated 1m2. Unlimited height

Class 3:  Contemporary Flower arrangement, table top. Space allocated 2ft2. Max height 3ft2

Class 4: Traditional Flower arrangement, table top. Space allocated 2ft2. Max height 3ft2

Class 5: Display within a clear box ie glass. Max dimensions of container 1ft2 x 2fth

Class 6: Five cut flowers in a single container Class 7: Courtyard garden design

Class 8: Rooftop garden design

Class 9: Show Cottage garden border design FREE

Class 10: Show Contemporary garden border design FREE

Class 11: Allotment design FREE

Class 12: Most innovative gardening/small holding product – to be judged on trader’s stand FREE  

 

                                              The Leicestershire Agricultural Society

                       will award a Special  Award  of £100  to the best display from classes 9 – 11

 

 Rules: 
  • The competitions are open to visitors and traders alike and will be judged by the panel of the
  • ITV ‘s “Gardening Question Time”.
  • All entries must be fresh flowers and be ready for display by 9pm on the 2nd May 2009. Entries may be collected after 5pm on the 4th May 2009. If they haven’t been collected by 8pm on the 4th, your display and prize card will be forfeited. Prize money will be sent out after the show by May the 31st 2009
  • You may enter these classes without having to purchase a show entry ticket, however, you will be unable to gain access to the show prior to 5pm on the 4th May 2009. You may purchase a ticket to gain entry to the show, at a discounted rate of £7 each, (£9 on the day) providing all required tickets are purchased at the same time as you submit your entry. Please complete the relevant section on the entry form.
  • Judging will take place for all classes on Sunday 3rd May 2009 at 8am. Entries are not judged against one another, but against set criteria. There are 4 levels of award: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Highly Commended.

 Garden design sections:         

  • Design to be hand-drawn to scale onto a sheet of A3 paper mounted onto an appropriate backing.         
  • To be submitted with full planting list and details of the locations of each plant, this may be best done with detailed border design drawings.         
  • To be submitted with a “mood board”          
  •  Dimensions of the fictitious garden is 20ft2
  • The finished, mounted design must be able to be presented in an upright position. The other accompanying items can be displayed “flat”.

 

 Border and allotment design sections:         

  • Design and build a raised border under the appropriate theme.
  • You must supply your own compost, plants and other materials. ·         
  • Borders are 8ft x 3ft, there is no maximum height.
