CHILDRENS PLANTING WORKSHOP
Something For The ChildrenThe children’s planting workshop is a fantastic area where the young and old alike can enjoy a well earned break. This activity is free of charge and offers children the chance to get down and dirty under the watchful eye of our experts. They can learn how to nurture their plants and given the chance to understand exactly what it involves to look after and grow plants, shrubs and flowers.
With just a seed, a pot, some soil and water (and imagination!) children will love to get their little hands dirty and take pride in taking their little pot and lovingly planted seed home with them to watch it grow. It’s never too early to start children having an interest in gardening and no better time than following your visit to the Gardening Weekend. With the School holidays just around the corner why not start your children off with a Sensory Garden.
A sensory garden is not only beautiful to look at, but will tantalise their senses too! These plants offer a great way to catch children's imagination and get them interested in gardening.
This area is open from 10am-1pm & 2pm - 4pm
GARDENERS’ QUESTION TIME
Whatever the question our experts will be happy to advise and help. The gardeners question time can accommodate both beginners and experts with no question being too simple or too complex. The sessions are divided into beginners and advanced classes, the timing of which will be listed below closer to the event.
Our experts have an incredible background and a wealth of experience to call upon. Any questions are welcome from “when do I sow the first seeds?” to “how do I get rid of the annoying slugs?” to “Should I alter the layout of my garden to accommodate global warming?” Our resident experts, Howard Drury DHE (Hons) and Stephen Reynolds, will be available for both one-to-one and group sessions a number of times throughout the weekend. You do not need to pre-book simply turn up and join in the debate. Alternatively you can simply pull up a chair, listen and glean some of those gems of information that will transform your gardens.
Howard Drury DHE (Hons) is a botanic garden trained horticulturalist who has presented both TV and Radio programmes and still regularly writes and makes personal appearances throughout the country.

We are hoping to attract the followingThe Rose Society, The British Streptocarpus Society, Fuchsia Society.
The Alpine Garden Society, British Cactus and Succulent Society,
British National Carnation Society, British Pelargonium and Geranium Society
ORGANIC GARDENING
More and more green-fingered types are turning to organic gardening methods as we all become more conscious of not only our health, but that of the planet as well. Here at the Gardeners Weekend you can find out all you need to know about going organic, from food to flowers and compost to cucumbers.
Organic Gardening is just getting down and dirty to produce your own fruit and veg (organic of course, which means no chemical fertilizers or pesticides – you don’t want to poison your garden, wildlife or your family!).
What you get from organic gardening is fruit & vegetables in season all year round (more in the summer of course), fresh, organic, and straight from the garden – once you’ve done it you’ll realise the difference in taste.
You can even start to produce all your food from just a half-acre plot, or grow a few herbs in a window box, or patio area, the choice is yours.
